Two Shared Components, Back To Back

General LS uses the same Listening and Speaking components as CELPIP-General, without Reading or Writing.

01

Listening

46–55 min · 6 parts

Listen once and answer 38 scored questions across practical conversations, information, news, discussion, and viewpoints.

02

Speaking

15 min · 8 tasks

Prepare and record one response for each on-screen situation, including visual and comparison tasks.

Computer delivered

One Sitting. Everyday English.

CELPIP is completed on a computer at a test centre. The prompts focus on communication in workplace, community, and daily-life settings, and Speaking responses are recorded through a headset.

What the interface controls

  • Section and task timers continue while you work.
  • Listening recordings play once and cannot be paused.
  • Reading permits navigation within the current part.
  • Writing and Speaking tasks move forward in order.

What you produce

  • Selected answers for Listening and Reading.
  • An email and a survey response in General.
  • Eight separately recorded Speaking responses.
  • No separate Speaking appointment or interviewer.

What Pendorai returns

  • Deterministic objective marking after submission.
  • Writing and Speaking criterion breakdowns.
  • Answer review, transcripts, and sample responses.
  • A practice estimate, never presented as an official score.
Listening

Six parts, one-play Canadian English

Every recording plays once. The section begins with practical problem solving and develops through everyday conversation, information, news, group discussion, and contrasting viewpoints.

  • 46–55 minutes
  • 38 scored questions
  • Shared by both tests

8 + 5 questions

Parts 1–2 — Practical conversations

Solve a problem, then follow an everyday exchange.

  • Part 1: Listening to Problem Solving.
  • Part 2: Listening to a Daily Life Conversation.
  • Questions are shown one at a time as the exchange develops.

6 + 5 questions

Parts 3–4 — Information and news

Extract detail, purpose, organization, and implied meaning.

  • Part 3: Listening for Information.
  • Part 4: Listening to a News Item.
  • The language is functional and natural rather than academic for its own sake.

8 + 6 questions

Parts 5–6 — Discussion and viewpoints

Track several speakers and distinguish positions.

  • Part 5: Listening to a Discussion.
  • Part 6: Listening to Viewpoints.
  • Each part presents its question set after the shared recording.

The official test may include indistinguishable unscored Listening items for test development. Pendorai labels its simulations as scored practice forms and does not pretend to identify official operational items.

Speaking

Eight recorded responses in fifteen minutes

The computer presents each situation, gives you a short preparation period, and records one response. There is no separate face-to-face interview.

  • 15 minutes
  • 8 tasks
  • Shared by both tests

Prepared response

Tasks 1–2 — Advice and experience

Give practical advice, then tell a clear personal story.

  • Giving Advice.
  • Talking about a Personal Experience.
  • Organization, detail, vocabulary, and delivery all matter.

Image-based

Tasks 3–4 — Scene and prediction

Describe what is visible, then infer what may happen next.

  • Describing a Scene.
  • Making Predictions.
  • Pendorai uses clear, contemporary colour illustrations.

Choice-based

Tasks 5–6 — Persuasion and conflict

Compare options, persuade someone, and resolve a difficult situation.

  • Comparing and Persuading.
  • Dealing with a Difficult Situation.
  • Your response must fit the listener and the social context.

Extended response

Tasks 7–8 — Opinion and unusual situation

Support a position, then explain something unexpected precisely.

  • Expressing Opinions.
  • Describing an Unusual Situation.
  • The report includes your transcript, criterion feedback, and a strong sample.

Two Separate Skill Estimates

Listening is checked against the answer key. Speaking is evaluated from your recording and audio-derived transcript against the CELPIP performance dimensions.

Listening
Level estimate

Objective answer accuracy and form difficulty.

Speaking
Level estimate

Content, vocabulary, listenability, and task fulfilment.

Pendorai produces a practice estimate and does not issue an official CELPIP score.

What CELPIP-General LS Practice Looks Like Here

Sit a full paper, or drill one task type until it stops costing you marks. Either way it is marked, explained, and folded back into what you study next.

  • The full interaction, not a worksheet.

One-play protected audio, forward-only section flow, timed Writing tasks, and real browser microphone recording reproduce the decisions you make on test day.

  • Functional English stays functional.

Sources and prompts come from plausible Canadian workplace, service, community, and everyday settings rather than recycled academic-test topics.

  • Feedback goes beyond one number.

Objective answers are reviewed item by item. Writing and Speaking return criterion evidence, focused improvements, transcripts, and high-scoring examples.
